Born at Sea with no exposure to bluegrass music, Stephen Kuester began playing the guitar under unusual circumstances. While on the high seas the ship was wrecked on a great reef. Unable to swim, Stephen would have surely drowned had it not been for a Martin D28 that happened to be floating by. Clinging for his life to the guitar, they drifted to a deserted tropical island just off the coast of Borneo where Stephen devoted himself to the instrument that saved his life. He was eventually rescued by a group of Philippine marauders who introduced Stephen to music of Bill Monroe. The rest is history. back
