JOE BIRD, DOBRO

"Joe Bird, the sole literate member of the Jackasses, led a somewhat normal and peaceful life before joining the Jackass Flats, which happened quickly and almost painfully. Within hours of joining, Joe was jammed into a van with all of the Jackasses and leaving the state for a 4-gig 3-day excursion. Peacefully, if not uncomfortably, asleep on a bag full of wires and microphones, Joe awoke with a start: the rest of the band was screaming, the van was turning sideways, Travis (driving) was cussing, and snow was falling - and it wasn't even 7 a.m. That night he played the Dobro like it was the last night he'd ever play, and in the Abominator (the name of our wonderful touring van) you never know when the end may come.

Joe is educated (or as the band says, "He turns them there funny lines into words.") and all we know is that he has lived in Nashville, and he now lives in Richmond.

In his spare time (he has some?) he likes to play music. When he's busy, he's playing music. He also likes to play the mandolin, the electric guitar, the pedal steel, the guitar, and he enjoys wearing two left shoes: "I keep time better that way." back
